René Rodlauer is a Vienna-based director whose work blends emotional storytelling with a refined sense of visual craft. Entirely self-taught, his journey began behind a camera, where his fascination with composition and light evolved into a deeper cinematic style.
Driven by a deep curiosity about how brands and pop culture shape human emotion, he explores the psychological connections between people and the worlds they inhabit, crafting films that are not only visually striking but also emotionally resonant.
His style draws inspiration from the early 2000s’ bold aesthetics and merges the timeless craftmanship of classic filmmaking with precise, technically driven visual storytelling. Each project reflects his dedication to create imagery that feels alive. René’s approach balances creative experimentation with structured production craft, ensuring work that stands out both conceptually and visually.
With experience spanning over 40 clients, René has worked with global brands such as Lidl, YSL Beauty, Union Investment, and Warner Music, as well as respected Austrian institutions including ÖBB, the Wiener Stadtwerke, and Vöslauer.
As a member of DRCT, René connects to a network of directors dedicated to advocating for the profession of commercial and branded-content filmmaking and is committed to improving working conditions for directors.
